The Council of Europe is pleased to announce the first ratification of the Protocol amending Convention 108, which provides Convention 108+, today 10 December 2019 by Bulgaria, thus opening the path for further ratifications.

It is recalled that Bulgaria was among the 21 countries that first signed the Amending Protocol on its opening for signature on 10 October 2018.

This ratification comes just one year after this important date. During this first year, a total of 37 signatures have been registered, including those of Argentina, Tunisia and Uruguay.

The entry into force of Convention 108+ is crucial in the digital age and it is therefore expected that many other ratifications will enable the rapid entry into force of this modernised landmark instrument.
