The data protection approach of the Council of Europe was the topic of a key note video speech delivered at the Forum of Rule of Law on the Internet: Building the Rule of Law System in Digital Era at the World Internet Conference 2022 in China, on 26 September 2022.

In her speech, Isabelle Servoz-Gallucci went through the genesis of privacy standards and the origin of Convention 108, its principles and objectives, which, in a nutshell, pave the way to building a principle-based culture of privacy anchored in the protection of human rights, democracy, and rule of law, the core values of the Council of Europe.
