Celebrate Data protection Day on 28 January!

28 January is the Data Protection Day worldwide, at the initiative if the Council of Europe. It marks the anniversary of the opening to signature of the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regards to the Automatic Processing of Personal Data – Convention 108, on 28 January 1981.

At Council of Europe, this day will be marked with

Opening speeches will be made by Mr Bjørn Berge, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr Didier Reynders, Commissioner for Justice, European Commission, Ms Ana Brian Nougrères, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to privacy and Ms Alessandra Pierucci, Chair of the Committee of the Convention 108. The Ministers Deputies will hold a discussion following presentations made by a panel gathering  Ms Fiorella Salazar, Minister for Justice and Peace, Costa Rica, Ms Drudeisha Madhub, Data Protection Commissioner, member of the Convention 108 Committee in respect of the Republic of Mauritius, Ms Elsa Mein, Convention 108 Committee member in respect of Germany and Mr Ralf Sauer, Deputy Head, DG Justice and Consumer International Data Flows and Protection Unit, European Commission.

The Council of Europe provides you also with a yearly opportunity to be informed of the wealth of activities carried out to celebrate Data Protection Day in various countries and organisations participating in the Committee of Convention 108. See here [link]
