Busy - in person - 43rd plenary meeting for the Committee of Convention 108

The Convention 108 Committee held its 43rd plenary meeting in Strasbourg from 16 to 18 November 2022, first time exclusively face-to-face meeting in three years. It brought together representatives from more than 70 countries and international institutions to continue the work begun under its 2022-2025 work programme.

The Committee adopted the Guidelines on Digital National Identity (currently being edited), it continued its work on model contractual clauses in the context of transborder data flows, on inter-state exchanges of data for anti-money laundering/countering financing of terrorism as well as on interpretation of article 11 of Convention 108+. The Committee invited two organisations to take part in its work: the Organisation of American States (OAS) and the Commission de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CIL) of Burkina Faso. It also handled the modalities of the participation of the Russian Federation to its works, to answer the request of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe of June 2022 concerning the consequences of its aggression against Ukraine.

The Committee also elected its new Bureau as follows Chair: Elsa Mein, 1st Vice President: Caroline Gloor Scheidegger, 2nd Vice President: Awa Ndiaye and four members: Roxana Legezynska, Pablo Manuel Mateos Gascueña, Anamarija Mladinić and Gonzalo Sosa.

Finally, the two winners of the Stefano Rodotà 2022 Prize, Teresa Quintel and Sabrina Nucciotti, were able to present their respective award-winning work and could receive their awards.
