Bosnia and Herzegovina joins Convention 108+

Today, 7 July 2023, the Permanent Representation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Council of Europe transmitted the instrument of ratification of the Amending Protocol to the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of Personal Data (CETS No. 223), to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

With this move, Bosnia and Herzegovina, who has been Party to Convention 108 since 2006, becomes the 27th State Party to join Convention 108+. It should be noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina is also among the five State Parties already applying the provisions of the amending Protocol.

With this step, the entry into force of Convention 108+ comes closer and closer. 11 more ratifications are needed to make this remarkable and unique instrument – the only global international legally binding instrument protecting personal data and the right to privacy – coming to life.
