2018 was a historic year for data protection, with the adoption of the amending protocol to Convention 108 on 18 May in Elsinore and the applicability as of 25 May of the EU’s general data protection regulation (GDPR). Convention 108+ was open for signature on 10 October 2018 and a total of 4 ratifications and 34 signatures bring the modernised text gradually closer to an entry into force.
On the occasion of the second anniversary of the GDPR, the Head of the data protection Unit contributed to a special issue prepared by the IAPP entitled “The GDPR at Two: Expert Perspectives” touching upon the role, benefits, and articulation of both frameworks.
