From 31 May to 3 June, the 9th Training Academy on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe took place in Fontainebleau (France) as an official event within the framework of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

It was organized by the Impressionisms Routes network, represented by Mr. Pierre BEDOUELLE, President of Impressionisms Routes; Mr. Georges LUCENET, Vice-President and General Manager and Mr. Christian RECOING, Vice-President and Treasurer; in association with the European Institute of Cultural Routes in (EICR) in Luxembourg, represented by Ms. Barbara ZECHES, Vice-President of the EICR and Mr. Stefano DOMINIONI, Director of the EICR and Executive Secretary of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA), in cooperation with the District of Seine-et-Marne and the Ministry of Culture of France.

It also saw the intervention of Mr. Bruno FAVEL, Representative of France to the EPA on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, Directorate General of Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, France; Mr. Nicolas MONQUAUT and Ms. Orane PROISY, Ministry of Culture, France; Representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Tourism; Mr. Thierry TERRET, Ministerial Delegate for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as elected officials from the South of Paris Region and the west loops of the Seine providing their concrete testimonies.

The Training Academy was attended by about 70 participants, including the Presidents and Managers of 32 Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe from 17 different countries. During three days of intensive meetings, the participants were able to exchange their experiences and proposals in the management of their respective Cultural Routes to further increase the notoriety of the programme, which bring together more than 3000 members in 60 countries.

The Training Academy opened with a welcome evening at the prestigious Château de Fontainebleau at the invitation of its Director, Ms. Marie-Christine LABOURDETTE and was followed by two convivial evenings in Barbizon and Moret-sur-Loing. The delegates were also able to visit the new exhibition produced and distributed by the Impressionisms Routes network “Impressionism in France and in Europe”, presented within the walls of the Academy itself.

The conclusions of the Training Academy will be officially presented at the next Annual Advisory Forum on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, which will be held in Chania (Crete), Greece on 5-7 October 2022.
