A series of national consultations with relevant stakeholders were held online on 28- 29 April and 6 May 2021 on the development of a methodology for corruption proofing of legislation in Tunisia.

The objective of the consultations was to meet key actors engaged in the process of drafting legislation in Tunisia, clarify key concepts of corruption proofing, share good international practices and identify key steps for corruption proofing in the legislative process in Tunisia. The aim is to develop a methodology for corruption proofing of legislation adapted to the Tunisian context, making Tunisia the first country in the MENA region to introduce such a practice.

Corruption proofing of legislation entails the screening and review of draft legal acts of legislative or regulatory nature with the aim to detect provisions that favour or increase the probability of corruption during their implementation and to reduce corruption risks and related abuses.

Different representatives took part in bilateral and focus group discussions, including representatives of the Tunisian Anti-corruption Authority (INLUCC), the Presidency of the Government, and relevant departments of the ministries of Transport, Religious Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Culture and State Properties.

The activity was organised by the Tunisia Anti-corruption Project (TAC) in cooperation with the Tunisian Anti-corruption Authority (INLUCC) within the framework of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Project to support independent bodies in Tunisia” (PAII-T).
