On 7 October 2020, the EU/CoE “Project against Economic Crime in Kosovo” (PECK III), in partnership with the “Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in Kosovo” (JUFREX 2), held a meeting with representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs) active in the field of protection of whistleblowers.

The meeting was addressed by the representative of the European Union Office in Pristina and the Head of Office of Council of Europe, office in Pristina. The aim of the meeting was to develop strategic partnerships with the CSO sector on support to the establishment of a functioning whistleblower mechanism in Kosovo. As such, the participants discussed ways to improve cooperation between the key actors working on whistleblower protection in order to ensure more sustainable progress on the ground. The participants also discussed a range of challenges related to promoting and establishing whistleblower protection in Kosovo, including the need to develop necessary by-laws on handling whistleblower cases in the private sector. The proposed following activity of the group is a joint event on the protection of whistleblowers to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day in December 2020.

The meeting was also attended by partner institutions, including the Ministry of Justice, Anti-Corruption Agency, Labour Inspectorate and Association of Journalists.
