Preliminary CEPEJ expert mission to Kosovo* to present its methodology on judicial mapping

On 20 and 21 October 2022, the CEPEJ expert Ms Carmela Germinario met with representatives of the Kosovo Judicial Council, courts, prosecution offices and the Ministry of Justice to present the CEPEJ Guidelines on the creation of judicial maps to support access to justice within a quality judicial system and propose best practices when conducting a judicial map reform. These Guidelines highlights in particular the need for policy makers to have access to reliable quantitative and qualitative information on the demand for justice, to define objectives and indicators that may be used to establish the optimal balance between the activity of the courts and the proximity to users. The expert also visited the Basic Court of Ferizaj and the Branch Court in Kacanik to discuss the work organisation between the court and its branches. The beneficiaries expressed great interest in having CEPEJ support during this complex process of revision of the judicial map.

This activity is organised by the KoSEJ II Action “Strengthening the Quality and Efficiency of Justice in Kosovo”, which is part of the joint programme entitled "Horizontal Facility of the Western Balkans and Turkey II", co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe,.
