CEPEJ support to the revision of the system of evaluation of the performance of judges in Kosovo*

On 26 and 27 September 2022, the CEPEJ expert, Ms Nina Betetto (Slovenia) met in Pristina with representatives of the Kosovo Judicial Council, the Commission for the Evaluation of Judges' Performance, the Academy of Justice and judges of courts of first instance and the Supreme Court for an exchange of views on how to improve the system of evaluation of judges in accordance with European and international standards, in particular those developed by the Consultative Council of European Judges (CCJE). This discussion was an opportunity to recall the necessary balance between qualitative and quantitative evaluation criteria, the wish to harmonise approaches through the organisation of regular meetings between the evaluating judges as well as the capacity of these evaluation procedures to assess the training needs of judges. Final recommendations of the CEPEJ expert will be prepared in October 2022.

This activity is organised by the KoSEJ II Action “Strengthening the Quality and Efficiency of Justice in Kosovo”, which is part of the joint programme entitled "Horizontal Facility of the Western Balkans and Turkey II", co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe,.
