Prosecutor José Manuel Santos Pais, President of the CCPE, took part, on 29 June 2020, in the 8^th annual meeting between the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and the Heads of monitoring and advisory bodies held via videoconference in Strasbourg. Participants exchanged views as regards the key priorities of the Council of Europe given the challenges faced by European societies, how to support the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights, lessons learnt from the sanitary crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and how to protect core values and standards of the Council of Europe in the context of this pandemic. The President of the CCPE presented his views on the central role of justice and of prosecutors in the time of the pandemic, and the relevance of the CCPE in this context for enhancing the application of the European Convention on Human Rights, as well as of economic, social and cultural rights.
