Doing AI the European way: Protecting fundamental rights in an era of artificial intelligence

The Council of Europe is invited to take part to the conference "Doing AI the European way: Protecting fundemental rights in an era of artificial intelligence" organised on 14 December 2020 by the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection in the Framework of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

This interactive virtual event will address how evidence from specific use cases can support policymakers as they devise the regulatory frameworks that will shape the development and use of AI in the years to come. Policymakers at the EU, national and international levels are actively discussing whether and how to advance risk-based regulation of AI to harness its vast potential while at the same time ensuring that people can trust this technology. How can we balance the importance of promoting technological, economic and social innovation with the need to protect individuals and society from its potentially harmful effects?

The discussion will be based on the results of a new study by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, which will be released during the event.
