HELP presented at the European Parliament

The European Parliament’s Committees on Legal Affairs (JURI) and on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affaires (LIBE) invited the HELP Secretariat to a workshop devoted to the training of judges and legal practitioners. The hearing was an opportunity to present good practices that have been developed by training providers, including the Council of Europe's HELP Programme, EJTN and CCBE, as well as to discuss challenges to reach the objective of enabling half of all legal practitioners in the EU to participate in European judicial training activities by 2020.

Tatiana Termacic and Eva Pastrana presented the unique added value of the HELP methodology and tools (tailor-made online courses on human rights topics adapted to the national legal systems, merging European standards with national law) as well as the EU/CoE "HELP in the 28". They also pleaded for a strengthened EU - CoE partnership to expand further HELP to EU member states, with the aim to create a European Judicial Culture, reinforcing mutual trust among legal professionals and upholding human rights in Europe.

The hearing took place in Brussels on 12 April 2017.
