In
2007, the North-South Centre will organise, in collaboration with
several partners, 6 African regional preparatory meetings and 1
European regional meeting as well as one consultation dedicated to
the Diaspora in Europe. The Youth Summit will take place in December

youth policy in Africa Euro Cooperation, particularly in the

Youth Summit
The Africa-Europe Youth Summit,
which is organised on the initiative of the North-South
Centre of the Council of Europe, took place in
Lisbon (Portugal), from 5 to 7 December 2007.
It is gathering 250 youth representatives of Europe and
Africa and 60 observers, representing governments, regional
and international organisations and media.
A final declaration was delivered to the Heads of State
during the 2nd EU-Africa Summit (Lisbon, 8-9 December 2007).
The Africa-Europe Youth Summit, held under the patronage of
H.E Mr Aníbal Cavaco Silva, President of the Republic of
Portugal, was organised by the North-South Centre of
the Council of Europe, in partnership with the Portuguese
Youth Council, the European Youth Forum, the Pan African
Youth Union and other national and international youth
organisations. The event was supported by the European
Commission and the Portuguese government.

Regional
preparatory meeting of the Africa-Europe Youth Summit (Southern
Africa) The
consultation for youth organisations of the SADC region, towards
the Africa Europe Youth Summit was organised by the Africa
Institute of South Africa at the Birchwood Conference Center,
Gauteng, Johannesburg.
Close to 120 youth representatives from youth organisations,
National Youth Councils and Youth Commissions from the SADC
region gathered from the 22nd to the 24th of August 2007
to discuss the 8 main working areas of the Africa Europe Youth
Summit. The participants in the Meeting decided to convene a
second consultation meeting prior to the Youth Summit in the
coming months in order to deepen the position of youth
organisations from the region.

Consultation
on European and African Youth Diaspora living in Europe
The North-South Centre of the Council of Europe in
partnership with the " Institut National de la Jeunesse et
de l'Education Populaire " (INJEP), the European Youth
Forum and the Directorate of Youth and Sport of the
Council of Europe organised from
22 to 25 July in Marly le Roi (France),
the Consultation with the African Youth Diaspora living in
Europe, part of the process of the Africa - Europe
Youth Summit .
This consultation was held at the INJEP and gathered
close to 130 youth representatives, coming from members of the
European Youth Forum and from the African Diaspora living in
Europe.
Consultation
with the African Youth Diaspora in Portugal - Towards the Africa
Europe Youth Summit
This national consultation intended to promote the debate and
exchange of good practices and experiences in the framework of
African-European youth co-operation. This meeting was structured
between plenary sessions and working groups.
The consultation took place from 25 (Africa
Day) to 27 May 2007
in Almada (Portugal).
The participants included young people from the African diaspora
in Portugal and members of associations of the African community
in Portugal, aged between 18 and 30 years.
National
Consultation in preparation of the Africa-Europe Youth Summit
40 representatives of national youth organisations gathered on 4
and 6 May 2007 in Sintra (Portugal) for a national consultation
in preparation of the Africa-Europe Youth Summit to be held
under the Portuguese EU Chairmanship.
The national consultation, organised by the Portuguese National
Council of Youth and the North-South Centre of the Council of
Europe, with the support of the Municipality of Sintra, lead to
an exchange of ideas and good practices in the context of
Africa-Europe youth co-operation. The objective of the meeting
was to involve representatives from national youth organisations
and from the Africa diaspora in Portugal in the preparation of
the Summit and to strengthen Africa-Europe youth co-operation.
Under the central theme of poverty eradication, the working
sessions treated the following questions : the Millenium
Development Goals, Intercultural Dialogue, Peace and Conflicts,
Migration and mobility, employment and Entrepreneurship,
co-operation and participation of youth from Europe and Africa.
