Gender Equality

EURIMAGES AND GENDER EQUALITY

Since 2012, Eurimages has been considering the issue of gender equality in the Film Industry. A Gender Study Group composed of representatives from 10 members states was set up, with the aim to:

  • studying the current situation of the presence of women in the cinema sector at national and international level in co-operation with other national and international bodies;
  • analysing the current situation of Eurimages with regards to gender equality in the selection of projects;
  • collecting information on the “gender of the project” and on the content of the script (Bechdel test) for the support applications submitted to Eurimages.

Further details

During its 140th meeting in Tbilisi (Georgia) on 16 October 2015, the Eurimages Board of Management adopted a strategy for gender equality in the European film industry.

This decision reflects the Fund’s firm commitment to addressing the problem of under-representation of women in cinema. Through the implementation of this strategy, Eurimages will become a driving force for change by adopting a series of measures to promote the role of women in front of and behind the camera.

Strategy for gender equality

The brochure which contains the latest statistics and the key points of the Eurimages strategy for gender equality is now available. (link).

The Gender Study Group meets on a quarterly basis in the framework of the Eurimages Board of Management meetings. An enlarged meeting is also held in each of the host countries.

The aim of these enlarged meetings is to ensure that local authorities and film professionals are made aware of the importance of greater gender equality in the film industry.
