Informal Ministerial Networking Event

“How to promote the positive legacy of major sports events”

7 February 2014
Sochi, Russian Federation

The event is organised by the Council of Europe’s Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS), in co-operation with the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation.
It will address two main issues: how major sports events can create a positive legacy and Pan-European co-operation on sports events.
The Governing Board of EPAS noted that it may take the opportunity to organise more flexible, shorter ministerial meetings, e.g. in conjunction with major sports or other political events, where appropriate, to strengthen the dialogue and co-operation on sports policies at pan-European level. In this regard and in agreement with the Russian Authorities, it was proposed to hold a short informal meeting prior to the opening of the Sochi Winter Olympic Games, and to use this for an exchange of views on co-operation regarding major sports events.
This event is designed only for those Ministers and officials who are already accredited and accommodated at the XXII Olympic Winter Games, as no extra accommodation is possible.
The meeting will take place in the afternoon of 7 February.
