Minority languages: experts to visit Croatia
A delegation of the Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages is to visit Croatia from 2 to 5 March 2004 to monitor the country's implementation of this treaty.
During its visit to Daruvar and Zagreb, the delegation will meet representatives of the Hungarian, Czech, Slovak, Ukrainian, Ruthenian, Serbian and Italian languages, including NGOs, politicians, educationalists, as well as representatives of local authorities and of the national government.
On the basis of the information gathered, the Committee will prepare its own report, if necessary proposing recommendations to be made to the Croatian authorities on how the Charter can be better implemented.
Pursuant to Article 16 paragraph 2 of the Charter, bodies or associations legally established in Croatia have the possibility to draw the attention of the Committee of Experts to matters relating to the undertakings entered into in Croatia under Part III of the Charter and/or to submit statements concerning the policy pursued by Croatia in accordance with Part II of the Charter. These comments must be sent to the Committee of Experts by 5 April 2004 at the latest.
