Minority languages: experts to visit Spain
A delegation of the Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages is to visit Spain from 24 to 28 May 2004 to monitor the country's implementation of this treaty.
During its visit to Pamplona (Iruñea), Vitoria (Gasteiz), Bilbao (Bilbo), Oviedo (Uviédu) and Madrid the delegation will meet representatives of the Basque (Euskera/Vascuence), Asturian (Bable), Galician and Catalan/Valencian languages, including NGOs, politicians, journalists, educationalists, as well as representatives of local and regional authorities, and of the national government.
On the basis of the information gathered, the Committee of Experts will prepare its own report, if necessary proposing recommendations to be made to the Spanish authorities on how the Charter can be better implemented.
