Informal regional ministerial conference in Baku
On October 22 – 23, Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe organized the fourth informal regional conference of Ministers of Education on the Implementation of the European Higher Education Area.
The conference was a part of the programme of Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (May – November 2014) and was opened by the Minister of Education of Azerbaijan,
Dr Mikayl Chingiz oğlu Jabbarov, and gathered the Deputy Ministers of Education of Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Georgia, the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan as well as ministry representatives from Moldova,
Russia, and Ukraine. The European Students Union and the European Training Foundation were also represented and the Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Malena Mård, spoke at the opening session.
The conference focused on the implementation of the goals and policies of the European Higher Education Area in the participating countries, in particular qualifications frameworks, quality assurance and transparency/ethics in education.

Education is a recognised basic human right and the promotion of gender equality in education is a prerequisite to the achievement of de facto equality between women and men in all spheres of life. The Gender Equality Commission has defined non-stereotyped education and gender mainstreaming throughout the education system as one of its key priorities. This issue has also been taken on board by the Council of Europe in its Strategy on Gender Equality and will be the focus of the 2nd annual conference of the National Focal Points. Conference website
Summer Academy: Anniversary Conference
In view of the 5th anniversary of the Summer Academy «Democracy at School», the Council of Europe, the National Ministry of Education Poland, the Centre for Education Development and the European Wergeland Centre are jointly organizing a conference going to take place in Warsaw/ Poland, 5-7 October.
Shared histories for a Europe without dividing lines
Two regional training seminars to disseminate the results of the project "Shared histories for a Europe without dividing lines" will be organised 6-8 October in Tallinn (Estonia) and 23-24 October in Ljubljana (Slovenia).
Recognition : a blossom spring
Recognition of qualification is a central item of the Council of Europe Higher Education Policy as the joint Council of Europe/ Unesco Convention is the only international legal instrument on the subject.
At the end of February, the Bureau of the Lisbon Recognition convention met in Tallinn to develop its working plan for 2014-2016

On a daily base, the recognition centres members of the ENIC NARIC networks dealt with the applications of thousands of students, of people who ask for a fair recognition of their qualifications.
In March, the bureau of the ENIC and Advisory board of the NARIC will meet in Rome to prepare the annual meeting to be held in beginning of July. In the same period a new web site will be launched
