Building a Europe for and with children

Deputy Secretary-General Maud de Boer-Buquicchio addresses UNICEF Executive Board

16.09.11 - Council of Europe Deputy Secretary-General Maud de Boer-Buquicchio addressed the UNICEF Executive Board in New York, presenting the Council of Europe’s Programme Building a Europe for and with Children, and the organisation’s efforts to promote policies that protect children’s rights, in particular, the rights of vulnerable children.

Ms de Boer-Buquicchio stressed the importance of the partnership with UNICEF, emphasising that “most of the challenges that the Council of Europe is addressing are worldwide challenges”. Ms de Boer-Buquicchio added that “Council of Europe conventions, policies, training packs, campaigns and other products are tools that UNICEF can use and promote”, and that these tools have become universal tools.

The partnership with UNICEF is particularly important for the Council of Europe as it is currently preparing the next Programme strategy for 2012-15. As Ms de Boer-Buquicchio pointed out, this partnership is not only “very welcome but essential to make sure that we join efforts in the search for complementarity in our actions, while simultaneously managing to promote both our organisations’s standards”.
