Following a joint Council of Europe (coE) and OSCE/ODIHR opinion on draft amendments to Ukrainian legislation regulating political party financing, Ukrainian high-level officials met CoE and OSCE/ODIHR experts at the round-table “Political Party Funding – the Finish Line” held on 14 September in Kyiv, Ukraine. The two sides took this opportunity to openly discuss international standards and best practices on regulating political party financing as they relate to proposed legislation for Ukraine. The discussed draft amendments aim at addressing shortcoming in the political party financing system of Ukraine identified by GRECO. They are currently with the Verkhovna Rada awaiting adoption. The event gathered prominent Ukrainian figures, including the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, First Deputy Minister of Justice, Deputy Minister of Finance, MPs, as well as independent experts and civil society activists.
