On 16 September 2026, GRECO President David Meyer participated in the European Conference on Measuring the Effectiveness of Anti-Corruption Agencies organised by the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in Rome, Italy, to exchange with other anti-corruption agencies (ACAs) and experts.

Held from 16 to 18 September, the conference brought together representatives of anti-corruption agencies, experts and other stakeholders to discuss methodologies for measuring their effectiveness, review initial findings for the region, strengthen international cooperation, explore collaboration with national statistical offices, and address emerging challenges in the field.

Mr. Meyer spoke on a panel dedicated to the first European anti-corruption strategy, where he presented GRECO’s contribution, drawing on GRECO’s experience and key findings from its monitoring work and proposed priority areas for strengthening anti-corruption efforts across Europe and within the European Union’s institutional framework. He also underlined the importance of further strengthening the relationship between the European Union and GRECO, in accordance with GRECO’s Statute and Rules of Procedure. Closer institutional participation would benefit both the EU and the wider European community by reinforcing independent scrutiny, coherence and mutual accountability in the fight against corruption.

The panel brought together representatives of the European Commission, academia, civil society and the Council of Europe’s European Committee on Crime Problems, including Ms. Marie-Hélène Boulanger; Professor Alina Mungiu-Pippidi; Mr. Matthew Caruana Galizia; and Mr. Lorenzo Salazar (CDPC). The discussion was moderated by Ms. Eka Tkeshelashvili, former Minister of Justice of Georgia.
