On 12 and 13 May 2026, Dr Julian Mamo, Director of the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Insular Coastal Dynamics (ICoD) Malta, participated in the 27th Meeting of the Workshops on “Landscape management in the face of the climate crisis: a resilience approach - challenges and opportunities” organised jointly by the Council of Europe Landscape Convention and the Ministry of Culture of Spain in Ribeira Sacra, Spain, where he delivered a presentation on the project “Engaging Communities in Climate-induced Hazards (ECCH) – Floods and Droughts” implemented within the EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement’s programme of activities.
The meeting in Ribeira Sacra served to promote visibility of landscape policies and initiatives across State Parties, raised awareness on resilience-based approaches to landscape management and identified challenges and opportunities posed by the climate crisis for landscapes. Dr Julian Mamo’s intervention highlighted the complementarity of the work carried out by the EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement and the Landscape Convention on these important topics.
EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement is a platform for co-operation in the field of major natural and technological disasters.
