The 2020 CoE/EU Structural Reform Support Programme initiative for the Czech Republic was launched on the 17th of September 2020, through a virtual kick-off meeting of the project Steering Committee (SC).

The event was opened by representatives of the Czech authorities in-charge of coordinating planned reform activities, the European Commission Directorate General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM), and the Council of Europe Economic Crime and Cooperation Division. Speakers expressed their enthusiasm and commitment to proceed with the implementation process aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the AML/CFT system of Czech Republic by building up on the results of the National Risk Assessment (NRA). Steering Committee members used this opportunity to provide an update on the recent AML/CFT developments in the country and share their expectations and ideas for the next steps. All participants underlined for instance the importance of conducting a number of sectorial risk assessments as well as the Proliferation Financing NRA. The first activity of the Project will be providing Czech authorities with Proliferation Financing National Risk Assessment Guidelines designed by the Council of Europe Economic Crime and Cooperation Division, which will serve as a basis for developing a comprehensive PF NRA Methodology.

The project Steering Committee will meet once a year to follow the progress of activities and discuss necessary adjustments.

The activity was organised within the framework of the Structural Reform Support Programme initiative on “Enhancing effectiveness of the AML/CFT regime in the Czech Republic”, funded by the European Commission Directorate General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM) and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
