Enhancing business integrity and compliance in the private sector in the MENA region

A regional workshop on “The role of anti-corruption agencies to enhance business integrity and compliance in the private sector” was organised in Amman, Jordan in cooperation with the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-corruption Commission.

Participants were welcomed by H.E. Sami Salaita, Vice Chairperson of the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-corruption Commission, Ms Pilar Morales, Coordinator of the Neighbourhood Policy with the Southern Mediterranean of the Council of Europe and Patrick Lambrechts, Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union in Jordan.

The regional workshop aims to raise awareness among anti-corruption agencies and other relevant institutions on international standards and good practices on business integrity and anti-corruption compliance, participants could exchange on concepts and functions of private sector corruption and the role of relevant institutions. Over 30 representatives of the public and private sectors as well as civil society from Jordan, Morocco, Palestine* and Tunisia participate in this event. 

Furthermore, the workshop provided an opportunity to exchange on the challenges faced by the relevant stakeholders in introducing and applying integrity measures and countering economic crimes.

The regional workshop was organised in the framework of the project “Promotion of good governance: fight against corruption, money laundering and financing of terrorism in the Southern Mediterranean” (SNAC V), under the joint EU/Council of Europe Programme “protecting human rights, rule of law and democracy through shared standards in the Southern Mediterranean” (South Programme V).
