Following the initial findings of the analysis of data relating to the court backlog for 2024 and 2025, carried out using the  CEPEJ’s backlog reduction tool, the working group set up specifically for the project sought to identify the specific factors that may have contributed to the build-up of this backlog, as well as measures to improve the court’s performance.

The CEPEJ experts proposed specific and measurable improvement targets, which the court will need to consider.

The participants also emphasised the importance of reliable statistical data and its rigorous interpretation as a prerequisite for effectively reducing the backlog of cases.

The project “Supporting the reduction of the backlog of cases in the courts of first instance of Athens and Thessaloniki (pilot courts)“ is co-financed by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument and implemented by the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the European Commission.
