105th plenary meeting of the CDCJ / Joint CDCJ-CDENF launch event on Recommendations on the rights and best interests of the child in parental separation and care proceedings

20 November 2025 – The European Committee on Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) jointly organised with the Steering Committee for the Rights of the Child (CDENF) on 19 November 2025 a launch event for Recommendation CM/Rec(2025)4 on the protection of the rights and best interests of the child in parental separation proceedings as well as Recommendation CM/Rec(2025)5 on the protection of the rights and best interests of the child in care proceedings, ahead of the World Children’s Day. This launch event was organised as part of the 105th plenary meeting of the CDCJ held from 18 to 20 November. During its plenary meeting, the committee continued its work on a thematic review on the career and training of judges as a follow up to the Council of Europe Plan of Action on Strengthening Judicial Independence and Impartiality (Sofia Action Plan). It also made a preliminary examination of the draft recommendation on the rights of donor conceived persons to know their origins and the draft revised recommendation on the nationality of children. In addition, the CDCJ adopted a compendium of promising practices on access to nationality for stateless children and authorised the publication of a study on national climate change litigation after its examination. An exchange of views was held with Judges Mercer and Raduletu of the European Court of Human Rights on the protection of lawyers in connection with the case law of the Court and the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer (Luxembourg Convention).
