The Congress Monitoring, Governance and Current Affairs Committees will hold their meetings remotely

The Monitoring, the Governance and the Current Affairs Committees will hold their online meetings on 10 and 11 February 2021.

The Current Affairs Committee will consider for adoption a report on “Protection of LGBT people in the context of rising anti-LGBT hate speech and discrimination: The role and responsibilities of local and regional authorities” and and a Fact-finding report on “The role of local authorities with regard to the situation and rights of LGBT people in Poland”.

The Governance Committee will consider for adoption a report on “Home Sharing Platforms, Challenges and Opportunities for Municipalities”. The Commitee will review five other reports in progress, namely on: “Territorial Solidarity: the role regions can play”, “Smart Cities and Smart Regions”, “The future role of the municipal councillor”, “Deliberative democracy at local and regional level” and “Regional identities: improving dialogue to reduce regional tensions”. The Committee will also exchanges of views on a report on “Ensuring the Respect of the European Charter of Local Self-Government in Major Crisis Situations” as a contribution to the work of the Monitoring Committee on this report.

The Monitoring Committee will consdier for adoption two reports on “Recurring issues based on assessments resulting from Congress monitoring of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and election observation missions” and on “Ensuring the respect of the European Charter on Local Self-Government in major crisis situations”. The Monitoring reports in progress for Bulgaria and the Netherlands, the upcoming remote monitoring of local democracy in Azerbaijan, the 3rd volume of the Handbook on Human Rights at Local and Regional Levels and the information reports on local elections in Ukraine and in Bosnia and Herzegovina will also be subject to exchange of views. A complaint from a Cypriot municipality on a bill that lays down a new provision on changing municipal boundaries under the local government reform in Cyprus, will also be considered on this occasion by the Committee.
