Advancing cooperation: Congress President meets the Hamburg authorities

On the sidelines of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers Session in Hamburg, 21st May 2021, Congress President Leendert Verbeek, met with the First Mayor of Hamburg, Peter Tschentscher, German Secretary of State Almut Möller, and the Head of the German delegation to the Congress, Sören Schumacher to discuss the local and regional authorities role in promoting democratic stability and security.

They agreed on the significant contribution of local and regional authorities in the post-crisis recovery of COVID-19 and the key role of the Congress in building more resilient, democratic, and sustainable societies.

They also discussed the outcome of the Hamburg ministerial meeting. President Verbeek stressed, as he did at the ministerial meeting, the importance of the Congress' priorities as a contribution to the decisions taken by the Ministers and a contribution from the local and regional perspective to the implementation of the UN sustainable development goals.
