Poland: Working visit of the Polish Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Justice

On 31 March, the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights welcomed a high-level delegation from Poland led by Maria Ejchart, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Justice, accompanied by Maria Wejs‑Domżalska, Deputy Head of the Legal and Treaty Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The purpose of the visit was to discuss ongoing progress in implementing judgments concerning Poland currently under the supervision of the Committee of Ministers.

During the meeting, participants focused on practical measures to address and remedy violations found by the Court. The discussions explored strategies to improve cooperation and increase synergies between the Department and Polish national authorities. The delegation and Department staff reviewed several leading cases and groups of cases, including those concerning duration of detention (Burża), access to a lawyer during police questioning (Lalik), enforcement of contact orders in family cases (Stasik), and the groups concerning excessive length of proceedings (Rutkowski, Majewski).

The visit provided an opportunity to reaffirm and strengthen the dialogue and cooperation between the Department for the Execution of Judgments, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a focus on ensuring the full, effective, and timely execution of judgments, improving inter-institutional coordination, and advancing cooperation initiatives with the Council of Europe.
