Poland: Expert meeting on reforms for the restoration of judicial independence and the rule of law

On 1 October, the Department for the Execution of Judgments participated in the expert meeting on judicial independence and the rule of law in Poland, organised in Warsaw by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) with the participation of the Polish Minister of Justice. The meeting gathered international and domestic experts from the Government, international organisations, associations of judges and prosecutors, as well as civil society. It served as a forum for discussing possible reforms to address the lack of independence of the National Council of the Judiciary and its impact on judicial appointments. The Department presented information on the status of execution of the European Court’s judgments concerning the rule of law and judicial independence in Poland and the Committee of Ministers’ position regarding the necessary general measures.
