Indietro Public spaces: hubs for intercultural mixing and bridges between communities

Camden takes action to encourage meaningful intercultural mixing and interaction in public spaces such as public libraries, museums and parks among others.

Library spaces were transformed into community hubs, creating ‘living room’ spaces which encourage different sections of the community to come together through shared activities. For instance, knitting clubs support people of all backgrounds to knit, share tips and support those for whom English is not a first language to interpret patterns. Libraries offer children’s books in many community languages to encourage a love for books and reading. The borough also runs toy box, story time and rhyme time events to bring children from many diverse communities together.

Camden also partners with local museums and community organisations to celebrate the diversity of its community, for instance on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Independence of Bangladesh.
