The European Committee of Social Rights holds its 357th session in Strasbourg

The European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR) is holding its 357th session from 7 to 10 September 2026 in Strasbourg.

During the session, the Committee will focus notably on the examination of national reports for Conclusions 2026 (revised Charter) and Conclusions XXIII-1 (2026) (1961 Charter). The ECSR will also continue to deliberate on a number of collective complaints. Furthermore, the Committee will examine the draft report on the non-accepted provisions of the Charter in respect of Austria.

The Department of Social Rights (Directorate of Social Rights, Health and Environment, DGI)  in co-operation with the Permanent Representations of the Netherlands and Portugal, is organising an information session on the European Social Charter in relation to the work in GR-SOC, on 7 September 2026. This information session will provide Permanent Representations, in particular (incoming) deputies in GR-SOC, with an overview of the European Social Charter and its monitoring mechanisms. It will also elaborate on key issues, recent developments in the Charter system, and concrete and practical guidance for the work in GR-SOC.

In addition, a joint event of the ECSR with the European Court of Human Rights will take place on 8 September, featuring panels on the rights of persons with disabilities and gender equality. The event will bring together the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Mattias Guyomar and the President of the European Committee of Social Rights, Aoife Nolan, as well as judges from the ECHR and ECSR members. It will underline the importance of dialogue and cooperation in strengthening the protection of social rights across Europe. The event aims to foster dialogue and cooperation between the two institutions in the promotion and protection of human rights.
