Coordination meetings drive forward the implementation of Albania’s Electoral Education Package

Albania is moving closer to nationwide electoral education. In series of coordination meetings with the Central Election Commission, the Agency for Pre-University Education and the Agency for Quality Assurance in Pre-University Education, were presented newly developed Electoral Education Package and agreed on the next steps for its implementation.

The Electoral Education Package is developed through extensive consultation with the relevant education institutions and includes a Teacher’s manual, an Extracurricular activities calendar and a Monitoring and sustainability tool. The Central Election Commission presented its ongoing work with schools and highlighted how the package further reinforces existing electoral education initiatives. Discussions focused on its dissemination through the education system, including sharing the package with the 2 318 teachers already trained in electoral education by the Council of Europe, as well as with the Regional Education Offices under the Ministry of Education, to support its wider use in schools. The Ministry of Education will include the Electoral Education Package in the Guideline for the 2026-2027 academic year.

The Electoral Education Package builds on the achievements of the project: support to the integration of electoral education into the national curriculum, training of 2 318 teachers, engagement of 20 000 students from 335 secondary schools through mock elections, teacher-led activities and other electoral education initiatives.

The meetings were organised within the framework of the Strengthening Elections’ Integrity in Albania project implemented by the Council of Europe and funded by the Federal Republic of Germany.
