A two-day assessment mission focused on enhancing Serbia’s capacity to investigate corruption and trace illicit assets was held in Belgrade on 17–18 June 2025, in order to collect relevant information on current procedures existing withing police for these areas, their effectiveness and limitations. 
 
During the mission, the meetings were held with key departments of the Ministry of Interior, including units focused on corruption, organized crime, and financial investigations, as well as representatives from the Supreme State Prosecution and the Special Prosecution for Organized Crime. The collocutors provided in-depth insight in the current procedures, identified main ambiguities and shortcomings and discussed possible changes to the regulatory framework that would improve the process of detection and investigation of high-level corruption and tracing of illicit proceeds from corruptive acts. Based on the collected information, a practical guidance on the detection and investigation of high-level corruption will be developed, as well as a tailor-made training for police officers based on the newly developed materials. 
 
The guidance will serve as the baseline for improvement of two existing standard operational procedures of the Ministry of Interior, regulating this area. This activity reflects ongoing international support to reinforce Serbia’s institutional response to economic crime and corruption.
