Supporting Cyprus in building the operational capacity of its new Asset Management Office

From 6 to 8 October 2026, the Department of Insolvency completed a three-day capacity building training in Nicosia, marking a decisive step in preparing its officials to fulfil their new role as the designated Asset Management Office (AMO) in Cyprus.

Through the programme that covered the full range of competencies required for effective asset management, the participants explored, how the new Cypriot legal framework applies to the different situations that may arise in the management of confiscated assets, starting from the management of different asset types, new management options available to them, necessary cooperation with different institutions within Cyprus and abroad in pre-planning, seizure, management and disposal of confiscated assets.

Case studies based on real asset seizure cases that occurred in Cyprus, provided participants with practical exposure to complex asset management scenarios. Finally, a Training of Trainers component enabled participants to subsequently deliver the course internally, ensuring the sustainability of the capacity-building process beyond the project's implementation period.

The training brought together 14 participants from the Department of Insolvency, MOKAS, the European Commission and the Council of Europe.

The event was held within the framework of the European Union and Council of Europe Technical Support Instrument project "Establishment of an Asset Management Office in Cyprus".
