Over one hundred public and private sector representatives in Vojvodina Province of the Republic of Serbia convened in the city of Novi Sad to deepen their understanding of the latest threats related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing.
The workshop brought together officials from the Government Coordination Body for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, alongside experts and practitioners, to review the findings of Serbia’s 2024 National Risk Assessment (ML/TF/PF NRA).
This was the third regional event aimed to strengthen the response capabilities of the judiciary, prosecution, law enforcement, tax administration and private sector actors in northern Serbia.
Participants explored the updated risk assessment methodology, examined systemic weaknesses within the national AML/CFT framework, and addressed key threats, including organized crime networks, public sector corruption, and tax-related offenses. The workshop also highlighted typologies relevant to the local context.
Attendees were introduced to current risk trends, existing gaps in prevention and enforcement, and the necessity of early, coordinated action.
The sessions concluded with a shared commitment to ongoing risk surveillance and enhanced cooperation between institutions to build a more robust defence against economic crime. Insights from the workshop will inform strategic policy revisions and help align Serbia’s AML/CFT mechanisms with international standards.
The activity has taken place within the Project “Countering Economic Crime in Serbia”, funded by the Swedish International Development Agency, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
