Experts and policymakers, representatives of the Coordination Body of the Government for prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing, gathered in Vrnjacka Banja and city of Kraljevo, to discuss key findings from Serbia’s National Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, and Proliferation Financing Risk Assessment (ML/TF/PF NRA) adopted in 2024. The second in the series of workshops, supported by the project Countering Economic Crime in Serbia, was dedicated to strengthening capacities of the private sector, judiciary and law enforcement in the region of central Serbia to address key risks identified in the updated National Risk Assessment.
Key discussions included the methodology applied for conducting the risk assessment, the vulnerabilities of the national anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) system, and the threats stemming from organized crime, corruption and tax evasion, as well as typologies specific for this region, such as money laundering through agricultural enterprises. Private sector, law enforcement and judiciary were familiarized with recent trends, gaps in current prevention and repression of ML/FT and reminded of importance of the early intervention.
In conclusion, participants emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring of ML/TF/PF risks and stronger institutional coordination to enhance Serbia’s resilience against economic crime. The findings from the discussions will guide policy adjustments and enforcement strategies, ensuring alignment with international best practices and financial security standards. These workshops are part of the activity aimed to raise awareness on the latest NRA results to stakeholders across Serbia.
The activity has taken place within the Project “Countering Economic Crime in Serbia”, funded by the Swedish International Development Agency, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
