8 November, 09.30 - 13.00

Over the past years, the region became increasingly attractive for cybercriminals. Online scams and phishing email schemes have proliferated amid the coronavirus pandemic, followed by a sharp increase of ransomware attacks, posing serious threats to citizens, business and governments.

Alongside criminalizing attacks against cyberspace and efficient criminal justice response, tackling cyberattacks also requires a comprehensive cybersecurity complement, to protect networks and information systems and to respond and recover from cyber-incidents.

Effective capacity to prevent, identify, respond to, and recover from cyber incidents is key to building trust in the online environment. While shaping the national digital future, governments need to ensure the protection of their citizens and critical infrastructure from cyber-threats in a manner that respects human rights, including by fostering cooperation and coordination among cybersecurity stakeholders at the national, regional, and international level.

The workshop will showcase the progress made in the region in ensuring a multidisciplinary approach in tacking cybercrime and further promote the need for developing and fostering the cybersecurity agenda in the Americas.
