Back What are the dangers of stereotyping?

The training unit (TU), developed in the Pestalozzi Programme in the Education for the prevention of discrimination (DISC) module, consists of three activities, including an assessment session for initial and in-service training.

The aim of the TU is to provide tools for participants to create a safe learning environment by raising awareness of personal stereotypes and their impact on the teaching process and daily life.
Participants are expected to become aware of how stereotypes intervene in our lives and in our expectations about people, what the dangers of stereotyping are and the need to do something to prevent them.

Participants will also be taught to be aware of fixed patterns of prejudice in real life and learn about “alternative thinking” (Manuel Segura).

Participants will also be trained to be aware of how teachers´ expectations may condition the student’s performance.
