Back Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education: a diversity of approaches

This analytical report focuses on the development of skills for promoting social cohesion, valuing diversity and handling differences. It reviews the findings of a survey on the development of competences for democracy and human rights in Belarus, Georgia, Lithuania and the Russian Federation.

In 2013 a survey was organised to gather information on the current state of the development of skills required for life in democratic societies, within the framework of school education for children aged 14-15 years.

The authors of this analysis have tried to identify and assess: 1) specific characteristics (methods and educational approaches) of the development of democratic citizenship skills which are applied in the educational process of countries participating in the survey, 2) vectors of development of democratic citizenship and human rights education programmes, 3) distinguishing features and specific characteristics of educational practice in a number of States and problems encountered by the respondents.
