A pool of 20 prosecutors and 17 lawyers were awarded certificates by the Council of Europe, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and the Georgian Bar Association in an official ceremony. Participants of the final workshop also took stock of lessons learnt, identified good practices and explored future plans to continue the training.
The HELP course on child-friendly justice aims at further strengthening Georgia’s judicial system by providing a solid basis across criminal, civil and administrative law issues from a child-friendly perspective for all legal professionals working for and with children.
Prior to the first online training, the course was adapted into the Georgian legal context and framework and officially launched in October 2018 with the support of the Council of Europe project “Responding to child sexual exploitation and abuse in Georgia, phase I”.
The project aims at strengthening the capacity of authorities and professionals to prevent and protect children from sexual exploitation, sexual abuse and other forms of violence, and to promote child-friendly practices in Georgia. It is implemented in the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia (2016-2019).
The European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) is the only pan-European Network of national training institutions for judges, prosecutors and lawyers in the 47 member states of the Council of Europe. It is an e-learning platform with free on-line courses on human rights and a human rights training methodolgy for legal professionals.
