A conference on Current Challenges and Opportunities of the Bars and Law Societies of the Council of Europe Member States

A conference on Current Challenges and Opportunities of the Bars and Law Societies of the Council of Europe Member States was held on 9 March 2018 in “Milano” hall of DoubleTree by Hilton Yerevan City Centre Hotel.

The Conference was organised by the Council of Europe, the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) and the Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia within the framework of the Project “Support to the implementation of the judicial reform in Armenia”. This part of the Project is funded by the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and implemented by the Council of Europe.

This was the first event of its kind held in Armenia that brought together all relevant national stakeholders, representatives of the bars and law societies of Council of Europe member states, representatives of the CCBE and Council of Europe experts to discuss and debate on the current challenges and opportunities of the bars and Law Socialites of the Council of Europe member states. The central issues of the discussion of the Conference were ‘’relations between the attorney and court, respectful behaviour towards the court’’, “data protection” and ‘’the scope of rules of ethics: personal, social and professional aspects’’. The event also provided a platform for discussing and establishing a cooperation network between attorneys of different Council of Europe member states.

It constitutes the strategic framework for the co-operation of the Organisation with the Armenian authorities with a view to promote current reforms in the country. The four main directions of action under the document are: protecting and promoting human rights, ensuring justice, combatting threats to the rule of law, as well as promoting democratic governance.

As part of our continued outreach, the Office is also committed to working closely with NGOs, the media, and the public at large.

I hope that the information and resources available on this website will be helpful to address your questions related to the activities of our Office and the Council of Europe in Armenia.
