About the project

The Project is aimed at enhancing the Freedom of Expression and media standards in Georgia by facilitating:

1. Implementation of media regulatory and self-regulatory frameworks in line with the European standards
2. Harmonisation of the law and practice of safety of journalists with the Council of Europe standards
3. Adherence to the CoE standards in the field of access to information.

 Budget: EUR 780 000

 Duration: 1 January 2024 - 31 December 2025

Through a combination of tailored capacity-building, policy/legal advice and facilitated decision-making.

Individual journalists, media outlets, civil society organisations and activists, media consumers.

• Civil Society Organisations, including Media Advocacy Coalition, Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics and Georgian anti-SLAPP Coalition.

What do we expect to achieve?

• Media regulatory and self-regulatory authorities, as well as relevant Civil Society Organisations, exercise their respective mandates in line with the European standards
• Key decision-makers (Law Enforcement Agencies) take steps to harmonise the law and practice of safety of journalists with the Council of Europe standards
• Key stakeholders commit to respect the Tromsø Convention standards.
