Council of Europe will present first of its kind study conducted in Georgia “Evaluation on Accessibility to court buildings for persons with disabilities”

On Wednesday, 9 October, the Council of Europe will present the results of the study “Evaluation on Accessibility to court buildings for persons with disabilities”. The study results are based on the inspection of 65 court buildings throughout the country. The process included the systematic audit of 40 court facilities by the monitors; in parallel 25 court buildings were evaluated based on the international standard based questionnaire.

Mzia Todua, Acting Chief Justice; Giorgi Mikautadze, Secretary of the High Council of Justice; and Cristian Urse, the head of the Council of Europe Office will address the audience in the opening of the event.

The presentation will gather representatives of the judiciary, government, Tbilisi mayor’s office, civil activists and media.

This study was conducted in order to support the judicial system reform in Georgia aiming at increasing the accessibility of persons with disabilities to the justice system. The working process focused on the technical inspection of the court buildings in line with the international standards to achieve enhanced access to justice.

The study was conducted by the “Partnership for Human Rights” (PHR) with the support of the Council of Europe project “Support to the Judicial Reform in Georgia” and the High Council of Justice of Georgia.

The event will be held on 9 October, at Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metekhi Palace at 10:30.
