Congress supports multilevel dialogue on the human rights strategy of Georgia

Local authorities and the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) have a key role to play in mainstreaming human rights principles into local policies and actions, facilitating dialogue with the central level, and supporting the localisation of the national Human Rights Strategy. In this respect, "intersectionality is a core aspect of anti-discrimination that must be taken into account for an effective localisation of human rights" stressed Eirini Dourou, Congress spokesperson on gender equality.

NALAG’s Committee on the Localisation of Human Rights then built on the results of the roundtable to finetune its draft Human Rights Strategy. The Association takes a proactive approach to ensure that human rights and anti-discrimination efforts remain at the forefront of local governance in Georgia by engaging in a continuous dialogue with the Public Defender's Office.

This event was co-organised with the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), in the framework of the project “Strengthening Participatory Democracy and Human Rights at Local Level in Georgia”, implemented by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities and the Directorate General of Democracy and Human Dignity, Division of Elections and Participatory Democracy, within the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023 with the financial contribution of the Austrian Development Cooperation. The project aims to strengthen institutional frameworks for citizen participation, support local authorities and their national association in their efforts to protect and promote human rights and ensure that civil society organisations have real impact on local decision making.
