Witness and victim coordinators increased their knowledge about hate crimes

The Council of Europe in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office in Georgia conducted a training course for witness and victim coordinators on hate crimes.

As a result of the training, participants can better identify the specific needs, including the psychological and legal aspects, of those affected by hate crimes. Coordinators from Tbilisi and the regions attended the training course.

“The witness and victim coordinators service has been operating in the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia since 2011. The purpose of the service is to provide emotional support to the victim and to prevent secondary victimization. Therefore, it is important for us that the coordinators, with the support of the Council of Europe, have undergone a specialisation course on hate crimes. The knowledge gained during the training, which includes psychological and legal aspects, will significantly increase the effectiveness of the coordinator's service."  - Khatia Basharuli, Witness and Victim Senior Coordinator, General Prosecutor's Office.

This activity was conducted in the framework of the co-operation Project “Fight against Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Hate Speech in Georgia”. The project is implemented under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023 with the support of the Danish Neighbourhood Programme in Georgia (DANEP).
