Managers from Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Internal affairs enhance their knowledge on investigating hate crimes

The Council of Europe Office in Georgia organised a working meeting with the managers from the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the best practices of investigating hate crimes. The aim of the meeting was to share knowledge on the factors to consider during hate crime investigation under the Case Law of the European Court of Human Rights and discuss the challenges rising from the practice.

The working meeting was attended by the middle level managers from the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs from Tbilisi and the regions of Georgia. The meeting covered topics, such as discriminatory stereotypes, the importance of combating hate crimes, recommendations on the identification and effective investigation of hate crimes, a review of national legislation and the international obligations and best practices for investigating hate crimes.

This activity is supported by the Council of Europe co-operation Project “Fight against Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Hate Speech in Georgia”. The project is implemented under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023 with the support of the Danish Neighbourhood Programme in Georgia (DANEP).
