In-depth discussions on the protection of human rights in criminal proceedings

The Council of Europe organised series of trainings for the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the protection of human rights in criminal proceedings. Two groups took part in the sessions held on 13-14 and 25-26 July.

Meetings provided the opportunity to have in-depth discussions by responding to specific questions on the application of international standards while carrying out criminal investigations. Particular attention was paid to qualification, formulation of charges, national practices and challenges, the burden of proof, operative-search activities and recent case law of the ECtHR relevant to Georgia.

The event was organised as part of the Council of Europe co-operation project “Fighting Discrimination, Hate Crime and Hate Speech in Georgia”. The project is conducted with the support of the Danish Neighborhood Programme in Georgia (DANEP) under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Georgia.
